Wallingford Dining Pavilion

Set on the wilder edge of an established garden, this new pavilion provides a dedicated place for entertaining, allowing family and friends to gather away from the main house where they can be more closely connected to the landscape.

The building brings together an open dining hall and outdoor kitchen with an adjoining living space centred around a fireplace for cooler evenings. A roof terrace captures expansive views across the surrounding farmland, below which is a separate studio accommodating year-round reiki treatments.

Designed as a contemporary oak-framed building, the pavilion combines a refined structural expression with carefully considered proportions and detailing. Natural materials and a restrained palette create a building that sits elegantly within its rural setting.

The design minimises embodied carbon through elimination of concrete and limitation of steel to essential connections and ground screws. The open fire and wood-burning stove are fuelled by timber sourced directly from the site.

The pavilion forms the first phase of a wider masterplan for the property, which also includes a two-storey extension to the main house. Designed as complementary buildings with a shared architectural language, both elements received planning permission at the first attempt in early 2026. Construction of the pavilion is now underway, with completion anticipated later this year, followed by the house extension in 2027.
